The 48-Hour Interview Prep Framework
A structured system for preparing for any job interview in under 48 hours — research, STAR stories, questions to ask, and mental prep.
The Problem with "Just Winging It"
Most candidates do minimal prep and rely on being personable in the room. That works fine for easy interviews. For competitive roles, it's not enough.
48 hours of structured prep is the difference between being a good candidate and being the candidate.
Hour 0–4: Research
**The company.** Read their last 3 press releases, their "About" page, and recent news. Find 2–3 things that genuinely interest you that you can reference naturally.
**The role.** Re-read the job description and make a list of every requirement. For each one, identify a story from your experience that demonstrates it.
**Your interviewer.** If you know names, look them up on LinkedIn. What's their background? What have they built or written? Interviewers respond to people who've done their homework.
Hour 4–12: Build Your STAR Stories
STAR = Situation, Task, Action, Result.
Prepare 5–7 stories. Each should be about 90 seconds when spoken aloud. Cover:
- A technical challenge you solved
- A time you led or influenced without direct authority
- A project that failed or faced a major setback
- A time you had to learn something fast
- Your most impactful career achievement
Practice saying these out loud until they flow naturally.
Hour 12–24: Questions to Ask
You'll be asked "Do you have any questions?" Always have 3–5 genuine ones. Good questions:
- "What does success look like in this role after 90 days?"
- "What's the biggest challenge the team is facing right now?"
- "What separates the people who do well here from those who struggle?"
Avoid questions easily answered on the company website.
Hour 24–48: Mental Prep
Review your stories once more. Then stop cramming.
Get 8 hours of sleep. Eat a proper meal before. Arrive (or log on) 5–10 minutes early.
The night before, write down your 3 strongest talking points on paper. This act alone tends to calm nerves and sharpen focus.
